DESCRIPTION:Exploring the Universe\, Expanding Minds: A Night Under the Stars at Guilford \nAt Guilford College\, curiosity meets the cosmos through the work of the Cline Observatory\, a place where science becomes an experience and learning knows no bounds. \nIn collaboration with the Greensboro Astronomy Club\, the observatory hosts an open house event designed to captivate the minds of all ages. GAC President Christopher Rowe presents a multimedia planetarium lecture titled “The Weirdest Places in the Universe\,” offering a guided tour through some of the most fascinating celestial phenomena — from neutron stars and pulsars to black holes and quasars. \nFollowing the presentation\, Professor Don Smith leads visual and telescopic observing from the observatory deck\, weather permitting. The night offers guests a chance to witness the stars and planets firsthand\, blending scientific wonder with shared community discovery. \nPublic programs like this reflect Guilford’s mission of inclusive\, values-driven education. Science here is not confined to labs and textbooks — it reaches outward\, inviting the broader community to engage\, observe\, and ask questions. \nThe Cline Observatory continues to serve as a hub for public outreach\, hands-on learning\, and accessible science education. DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the 2025 Physics Reunion!\nThe time has come! Register now for the Guilford College Physics Department reunion March 14 – 15\, 2025. We have a weekend of programming that will allow you to hear from one another\, connect with current students\, and much more. \nOn March 14\, Tom English ’82\, will give the 20th Sheridan Simon lecture.  Tom has taught undergraduate physics and astronomy\, and directed observator outreach programs\, for 36 years\, first at Gardner-Webb University and then at Guilford Technical Community College. His primary professional interests are astronomy education/outreach\, dark skies advocacy\, and the history of astronomy\, specifically nineteenth century solar eclipse expeditions and the rise of astrophysics. \nYou’ll find on the registration page an opportunity to volunteer to be a conference presenter. Are you interested in speaking about your current or past work?  Your perspective on an interesting challenge facing society?  An observation you have made about the world?  We have presentation opportunities on both Friday and Saturday.
