Alumni and friends of the College are encouraged to prioritize Guilford in their philanthropic commitments on Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving that is coming up on December 3.

Unrestricted gifts are a point of emphasis for Guilford on Giving Tuesday this year as part of the overall plan to strengthen the College’s financial position in FY25. Gifts that are unrestricted can be applied to areas of greatest need, like scholarships, faculty development, academic departments, athletics and Friends Center.

Increasing participation by alumni is another objective this year. Advancement & Alumni Relations has established a goal of having 1,500 alumni donors in FY25, and alums making a gift on Giving Tuesday will help reach that target.

“There are many options for charitable giving on Giving Tuesday, however, we encourage our graduates and friends to support Guilford as it works to provide a life-changing liberal arts education to students and achieve long-term financial stability,” said LaDaniel Gatling II, Vice President of Advancement & Alumni Relations.

Guilfordians have been generous to the College on Giving Tuesday in recent years. Last year more than 360 donors contributed a total of $182,780 and in 2022, more than 450 donors contributed a total in excess of $250,000. In both years there were more than 220 gifts from alumni.

Giving Tuesday was established in 2012 to support communities through charitable giving, acts of kindness and donating time, talent or resources on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and to emphasize generosity alongside Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The College observes two giving days each fiscal year, Giving Tuesday in the fall and Guilford Madness in the spring. The dates for Madness in 2025 are March 18-19.
