Zithobile “Zitty” Nxumalo ’08 has been named President of the Guilford Education Alliance, an independent, Triad-based nonprofit focused on advocating for public schools in Guilford County.
I am writing to share the news of the passing of William F. “Bill” Stevens, who was a member of our Business faculty from 1982 until his retirement in 2006. He was instrumental in building our Center for Continuing Education up to its height in order to provide educational opportunities for adults and significant revenue for the College in six years as Dean.
Ann Deagon, who taught classics at Guilford for 36 years and was writer-in-residence, died June 24 in Wilmington, N.C. after a period of declining health.

Sixty years ago, Washington Rakama ’64 walked across the Commencement stage and into history when he received his Guilford diploma. Washington became the College’s first Black graduate that spring.
When they graduated from Guilford College, the Vietnam War was winding down, Bruce Springsteen was heating up and the classes of 1973 and 1974 were ready to take their place in the world. Today, other conflicts have replaced Vietnam, the climate is changing and Generation Z is enjoying its moment on stage.
Alumni and friends of Guilford College contributed $322,247 during the Guilford Madness spring giving campaign March 18-20, a 39% increase over last year.
